China Earthquake Relief
Priority Project – 4-47400-50-77
Sichuan Province, China

We thank God for the generosity of His people who have given over $300,000 to assist the survivors of the earthquake in Szichuan province, which left an estimated 69,000 dead and 4.8 million homeless. Funds have been used to purchase supplies (medicine, children's toys, tents and food) which have been distributed by volunteer teams to survivors in the affected areas. In addition, a partner agency has been given funds to provide training in psychological first aid (PFA) to layteams who meet survivors, listen to their stories and help them talk through the trauma of their experiences. Funds have been provided to print training brochures. In addition, donations have covered the weekly cost of transportation, food and housing for a team of 35 from a city about an hour's flight distant from Chengdu ($6,000-7,000).
In the coming year, we are making plans to do the following as funds are available:
- send 80 Chinese volunteers trained in relief work and psychological first aid to the earthquake area at a cost of $500 for two weeks of service
- providing up to 1000 tents at $300 a piece
- distribute winter supplies (blankets, cots, oil and rice) to 5000 families at the cost of $75 per family
- supply 5000 “back to school” kits for children at the cost of $15 per child
- assist in the rebuilding of 3 churches destroyed by the earthquake
Thank you for your generous response to date. There is still more to do as we serve the many that have lost everything but their lives.
Your gift will enable CAMA to assist in relief efforts to the people of Sichuan Province.
