February 2012
CAMA Newsletter

Dear Coworkers—

Thank you for riding with us on the rollercoaster of 2011. We ended the fiscal year (June 2011) at 104 percent of budget; four months into the new fiscal year (October 2011), we found ourselves at 70 percent of budget. Thankfully, God supplied abundantly in November and December, and we are now at 93.4 percent of budget. Praise the Lord!

On another front, a CAMA couple in a creative-access area in Southeast Asia was asked by the authorities to leave the area, only to be told a few months later that they were welcome to return to assist the very same authorities with community development work! Another CAMA couple seeking to adopt a girl from an African country encountered many roadblocks to the point of despair, only to hear at the last minute that they were cleared to adopt their new child. Our God hears and answers the prayers of His children!

Through all the peaks and valleys, God has used your prayers and gifts to keep us moving forward in the following ways:

• A beauty salon/cosmetology school in Central Asia has reached profitability and seen students come to faith in Him.

• An African surgeon, mentored by C&MA international worker Dr. David Thompson, performed 450 surgeries at Hope Clinic in Guinea, with each patient hearing how the Great Physician can heal both body and soul.

A home-care program for AIDS patients in Battambang, Cambodia, staffed largely by volunteers from five local Alliance churches, has been transitioned to Khmer leadership. About 90 of the 100 patients have made commitments to Christ, with 20 attending local churches. Through the home-care program, 25 HIV-impacted children are being helped.

• An occupational therapy clinic has been established in Kosovo to provide both physical and spiritual hope for the disabled. In addition, a counseling office has been opened that provides biblically based guidance to those with emotional needs.

• A prisoner in an Asian country said to our CAMA worker, “I have been reading the Christian books that you are sending in. Jesus is now living in my heart. Thank you for coming.”

A water pump project in West Africa has given one of our workers an opportunity to share Christ with a village chief, despite opposition from a cleric from the majority religion in the country.

• The translation of the Old Testament into Ngalik, a dialect used in West Papua, Indonesia, has been completed. The tribespeople now have the whole Bible in their heart language.

• CAMA has provided $339,560 to date in response to the Japan earthquake and tsunami. The bulk of the funds have been used to purchase a building in the hard-hit city of Ishinomaki. The facility will be used as a community center and worship venue, presenting hope for this life and the next.

These are just a few of the ways you have joined hands with CAMA to reach a hurting world in 2011. Thank you! And now that we have started a new year, please keep partnering with us! As a reminder of why we continue serving in 2012, my wife made me a small wall-hanging with one word on it: “Maranatha!” I keep it in my office to remind me daily that we are to “hasten His coming” (2 Peter 3:12) by doing good deeds that provoke questions to which Jesus is the answer (1 Peter 2:12). Let’s not give up now!

With Gratitude,
